Preventing Caries "MI" Way! Part 2

In his presentation, Prof Banerjee, a world-renowned cariologist and operative dentist, researcher and lecturer from the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King's College London, will outline and discuss with clinical and scientific evidence, the contemporary minimum intervention oral healthcare, team-delivered, patient-focused approach to preventing oral disease, namely dental caries. With an improved understanding and appreciation that untreated dental caries is the most prevalent non-communicable disease affecting the adult human population globally, it is imperative non-operative prevention / control measures are adopted to emphasise the patient's role in valuing and maintaining their own oral health over their lifetime. Behavioural change and adherence is pivotal in the success of prevention regimes to reduce caries susceptibility.  All members of the oral healthcare team must be involved from the outset. Various clinical scenarios will be discussed to provide examples of how to implement such behaviour change with regards to individualised caries prevention. He will also highlight the post-graduate education opportunities for developing MI Dentistry skills for therapists, including the distance-learning masters programme he runs at KCL, London.
