The modified free gingival graft - an innovative approach for treatment of gingival recession defect at lower anterior teeth
Abstract
Gingival recession defect affecting lower incisors is a common findings among adult patients and is considered, from a mucogingival perspective, as one of the most challenging clinical situation to treat. Indeed, anatomic conditions as marginal frenula, lack of keratinized tissue, high muscle pull, shallow vestibule, that are frequently encountered in the lower incisors, are considered limiting factors for periodontal surgery. Such critical anatomical factors can however be overcome and complete root coverage can successfully be obtained with a modified version of the free gingival graft. The biological motives behind this innovative approach will be presented and the procedure will be described step-by-step during this lecture.
