Abstract
In 2013, Listl and Birch stated that any new therapy should either provide superior therapy outcomes or demonstrate other relevant advantageous aspects, such as patient preference, operator convenience, economy of time, or other resources, to be considered for integration.
Today, focusing on oral hygiene is crucial for maintaining good oral and systemic health. Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a modular, systematic, and predictable solution for managing dental biofilm in professional prophylaxis, using state-of-the-art technologies.
The GBT protocol follows the recommendations of the European Federation of Periodontology (EPF), which states that a successful treatment outcome is a combination of professional prophylaxis and equally good oral hygiene at home. GBT protocol gains its significance not only through its ethical clinical applications but also by being evidence-based.
Developed by E.M.S, together with academics, researchers, and clinicians across the globe, GBT has gained immense popularity since 2016 due to its ease of use, simplistic approach, and versatility in clinical applications.
GBT has been scientifically proven to overcome all the challenges that exist today in professional teeth cleaning (prophylaxis). The protocol can be adapted to every clinical situation in the dental practice, from prevention of early decay and periodontal disease to maintenance and, in many cases, treatment of periodontitis and mucositis.
GBT can be applied to all patients in supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) and forms the basis of treatment for patients in initial/non-surgical periodontal therapy. The protocol comprises eight steps that can be modified depending on the clinical situation, with the aim of being minimally invasive, preserving hard and soft tissues, and meeting patient expectations.
When used correctly, GBT has been proven to be highly efficacious, safe, and comfortable, not only for the clinician but also for all patient groups. Today, GBT has over 100,000 testimonials from satisfied patients.
