Abstract

Direct posterior restorations are the most common procedures in dentistry. Meeting the patients' desires when constructing a treatment plan has always been a large issue for dentists. Sometimes the patients’ wishes are far from reality and are not applicable. In this course, we will address the most common conflicts between the patient's aims and the dentist's plan and how to solve that dilemma taking into consideration the most conservative approaches available. A general overview of current restorative concepts and techniques and an update of recent alternatives will be provided.

This course is specifically designed to address how the correct procedures can aid the restorative dentist to obtain the natural anatomy of posterior restorations with a simplified approach. The course combines lectures, hands-on workshops, clinical videos, and group discussions. Various types of restorative techniques will be covered, including the steps and designing a good cavity, how to restore a healthy contact point and obtain a good and fast occlusal anatomy. The final anatomy will thus be natural, free of unnecessary complexity, exaggeration, or time consumption. These treatment options will be discussed regarding their advantages, side effects, and success rates.

The course concentrates on clinical approaches that can aid clinicians in day-to-day practice. Case scenarios will be presented from a restorative approach to improve the long-term functional outcomes. Finally, a problem-based approach and failure management and treatment of complex cases will summarize all the information gathered during this program.
