Management of curved canals with heat treated alloys

Abstract

Instrumentation of root canals has become more predictable with the advent of rotary Nickle Titanium instruments. One of the biggest drawbacks is instrument fracture. The risk of which increases with more complex canal curvatures. The sequence of use in combination with heat treated instruments has significantly reduced this risk. This lecture inte4nds to explore the preparation of complex canal curvatures in a safe and predictable manner.

Learning Objectives

  • To explain the cause of instrument breakage
  • To discuss the management of curved canals
  • To introduce instrumentation sequences to reduce the risk of file fracture
  • To emphasise the importance of glide path management
  • To explain the use of smaller tapers in prevention of instrument fracture
  • To explain how smaller tapers can still allow irrigant penetration
