Björn Klinge is a Professor emeritus at Karolinska Institutet and Malmö University, widely recognized for his contributions to Periodontology. He earned his DDS in 1977 and a PhD in 1984 from Lund University. A specialist in Periodontology since 1988, Klinge has held numerous prestigious roles, including Dean at both Karolinska Institutet and Malmö University, where he played a key role in advancing dental education, research, and clinical practices.

Klinge has served as a scientific advisor in Periodontology to Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare since 2002 and was a member of the priority committee for the Swedish National Guidelines in Dentistry (2019-2022). He was also the Scientific Editor for the Journal of the Swedish Dental Association for 22 years. Additionally, Klinge directed the National Clinical Research School in Odontology, funded by the Swedish National Research Council, where he oversaw the PhD training of 42 dentists.

His research primarily focuses on the oral-systemic link, periimplantitis, and periodontal tissue regeneration, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications to his credit (h-index 47). He has served as an Expert Assessor for dental research in universities across Europe and Asia and has lectured extensively in around 40 countries worldwide.

Klinge has received several prestigious awards, including the Karolinska Institute Silver Medal (2020), the Swedish Dental Society's Gold Medal of Merit (2021), and the Jens Waerhaug Prize (2024). He is an Honorary Fellow at Singapore Dental Hospital, an Honorary Professor at Ji-Lin University in China, and holds an honorary doctorate from Turku University in Finland. He is also a Past President of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and the Scandinavian Society of Periodontology.

Throughout his career, Klinge has been key in promoting dental health through research, education, and professional leadership, earning him wide recognition in the international dental community.
