Dr Peter Valyi earned his dentistry degree at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical University (today Faculty of Dentistry University of Szeged) in 1993, where he started to work at the Department of Periodontology. He became a dental specialist in Periodontology, and later in Dental Implantology. He earned his PhD degree in 2014.

As a project leader he took part in starting the undergraduate bachelor’s degree education for dental hygienists. He is the author and editor of the E-book written for this curriculum, published both in Hungarian and English language.

He is a lecturer in topics related to Periodontology, Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnostics, Dental Implantology, Preventive Dentistry and Oral Microbiology for dental and dental hygienist students.

His research interests includes the etiology of periodontal diseases and non-surgical periodontal treatment methods.

He was the assistant professor and the head of the Division of Periodontology at the Department of Periodontology and Operative Dentistry (2003-2008, 2010-2015) later he became the acting head of the Department of Periodontology (2015-2017) at the Faculty of Dentistry University of Szeged. 

He is an associate professor and head of Division of Oral Diagnostics at the Department of Oral Diagnostics Faculty of Dentistry Semmelweis University (2021-).

He is a Vice President of the Hungarian Society of Periodontology. He is a member of EFP.

From 2022 he acts as an advisor for the newly formed Association of the Hungarian Dental Hygienist.
