Reducing refinements in Clear Aligner Therapy: Key tools for predictable planning

Abstract

Refinements remain a major challenge in aligner therapy, particularly in complex malocclusions with sagital, vertical or transversal corrections. This lecture presents a structured approach to treatment planning that minimizes refinements and increases predictability. Attendees will learn protocols for optimized staging, torque control, elastic strategies and anchorage management. Attendees will also learn how to optimize the tools available in clear aligner therapy such as power ridges, elastics, bite ramps, precision cuts and trimline cut.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the key factors contributing to refinements in clear aligner therapy.
  • Apply optimized staging strategies to improve treatment predictability.
  • Demonstrate effective torque control and anchorage management.
  • Describe the appropriate use of elastics and bite ramps for complex corrections.
  • Utilize aligner features such as power ridges, precision cuts, and trimline modifications effectively.
