Abstract

Orthodontic treatment is becoming more popular due to the introduction of more esthetic appliances and early diagnosis. A review of the scope of practice of orthodontics and an update of the latest advances will be discussed. The main part of the presentation will discuss updates in protocols for maintaining optimal oral health and hygiene to ensure successful orthodontic treatment outcome. Special emphasis will be made on strategies while using different orthodontic appliances like fixed appliances, aligners and TADs. This lecture will review the nature and etiology of hygiene related orthodontic problems and discuss how to deal with them. Furthermore, protocols for patient follow up and home care instructions will be reviewed.
