Abstract
Obturation of the root canal system is a crucial step in root canal treatment to achieve a positive therapeutic outcome. The quality of the seal depends on the materials used and their associated obturation techniques. The features of premixed hydraulic calcium silicate-based sealers and their perceived ease of use in combination with the Cold Hydraulic Condensation (CHC) technique in a clinical setting have made both increasingly accepted worldwide, by both general dentists and. But is this ease of use real, or is it just a marketing strategy? Is an obturation performed with a premixed bioceramic sealer reliable? Is it worth using a so-called “easier” obturation technique, such as the single-cone method with a bioceramic sealer, in terms of clinical outcomes? Since their introduction in 2007, premixed hydraulic calcium silicate-based sealers (CSBSs) have been increasingly used in endodontics, but evidence regarding their long-term clinical effectiveness remains limited, especially when dealing with the most challenging group of teeth for an endodontist: teeth affected by apical periodontitis. To maximize the benefits of bioceramic sealers, the clinician must know their features, limitations, and specific indications for use.
The aim of this lecture is to analyze all the features of these sealers to understand how to use them properly, ensuring that clinical practice benefits from all their advantages. The aim of the lecture is also to analyze data coming from a retrospective study with a 5-year observation period of root canal treatments performed with CSBSs in teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis, sharing the results of the study and analyzing patient-, tooth-, and treatment-related factors that can affect the outcome of the treatment.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of the knowledge of protocols and materials to get repeatable high quality obturation in the daily practice using premixed bioceramic sealer.
- Improve the ability to control the overfilling during the obturation.
- Understand the importance of a high quality obturation for the outcome of the treament
- Understand the proper way to use the bioceramic sealer in order to get all the related benefits
- Understand the quality level and Outcome of the Cold Hydraulic Condensation with the bioceramic Sealer
