Abstract
The edentulous jaw is often challenging to restore. Due to lack of stability and retention, removable dentures do not provide sufficient comfort and function for the patient. Implants may help to increase the support and retention for the teeth. However, anatomical restrictions can complicate the placement of implants and hamper the final outcome. Proper surgical and prosthetic planning is an absolute requirement, to identify the optimal treatment concept.
In this lecture, we will discuss the prosthetic and surgical possibilities to restore the edentulous arch. Participants will learn how to choose between fixed or removable concepts, how to plan the implants in relation to the ideal teeth setup and how anatomical restrictions can be overcome.
