Abstract

Professional oral prophylaxis is a way to avoid the onset of oral diseases, dental caries and periodontal/peri-implant diseases. The decontamination of supra gingival and sub gingival surfaces is paramount to achieve this goal and several methods are known and successfully practiced since decades. Prophylaxis with a minimal impact on tooth surfaces can be achieved with an adequate flow of sprays composed of air, water and soluble powders. Tooth- and root-surfaces are treated with different powders besides ultrasonic debridement with specially developed tips for root surfaces.
