Abstract

Depicting the individual patient´s anatomy only in two dimensions bears high risks of unpleasant “surprises” during surgical execution and possible failure of the planned treatment. The digital workflow based on 3D imaging prevents possible failure already in the planning phase of the treatment. Furthermore, most recent CBCT devices even allow a precise determination of the individual patient´s bone quality to determine how many implants will be needed and if immediate loading might be possible in each individual case.

In the surgical execution of the CBCT-based treatment plan mills, drills, burs, and low-frequency oscillating saws were the only tools for bone-cutting for a long time and their use was rarely questioned on their biological and physiological impact on bone healing and osseointegration, especially when compared now with new minimally invasive and atraumatic Piezotome-surgical tools and Piezotome-surgical protocols, which proved to significantly enhance surgical precision, bone-healing and to reduce intra- and post-surgical morbidity.

Based on CBCT case-planning examples during this hands-on, the participants will train Piezotome-ridge-preservation technique in tooth extractions for simultaneous implant insertion as well as advanced bone-surgical techniques with Piezotomes such as autologous bone-block transfer, flapless crest-splitting, minimal invasive transcrestal Piezotome-sinus lifting and Inferior Alveolar Nerve Lateralization.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the vital differences between 2D versus 3D radiography and their implications for everyday clinical diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Understand the significant differences between rotary instruments and Piezotome-surgical instruments when used in the everyday surgical routine
  • How to correctly apply CBCT-based digital workflow and minimal invasive Piezotome-surgical execution
  • To understand how You and Your patients will benefit from CBCT diagnosis, CBCT-based therapy planning and Piezotome-surgery
  • How to start and apply Piezotome-surgical procedures for bone augmentation (sinus lift, crest-split)
