Fear of pain when visiting the dentist is the patient nightmare. Consequently, delivering profound dental anesthesia to our patients is a cornerstone in restorative dentistry and endodontics, ensuring pain management and patient comfort during complex procedures. Local anesthetics, such as lidocaine and articaine, are extensively used to achieve profound numbness in specific regions of the oral cavity, facilitating dental procedures like root canal treatments, cavity fillings, and crowns.
The mechanisms of action of these anesthetics, their pharmacological properties, and the factors influencing their selection are critically analyzed. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment and individualized anesthetic plans to optimize outcomes and minimize risks.
Ongoing research and technological innovations are poised further to improve the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia in dentistry, promising better patient experiences and clinical outcomes.
This presentation aims to explain and provide a useful overview of the different products, techniques, and instrumentation, to deliver deep and long-lasting anesthesia during the dental procedure.
