Dr. Francesc Abella earned his degree in Dentistry in 2005 from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Barcelona, Spain. In 2014, he obtained his PhD in Dentistry from the same institution. In 2024, he was appointed Full Professor at UIC, where he currently serves as Director of the European Master's Degree in Endodontics.
His private practice is limited to Endodontics and Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry in Barcelona and the surrounding area. Throughout the year, Dr. Abella delivers lectures, courses, and hands-on workshops across Europe, Asia, and South America. His main areas of interest within Endodontics include: cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), dental anatomy, dental trauma, periapical pathology, adhesive restorations, restoration of endodontically treated teeth, and periapical microsurgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Abella is actively involved in various research projects within the European Master's program in Endodontics at UIC. He has authored numerous articles published in high-impact international journals, and is the author of the book Dental Auto Transplantation in a Digital World (EDRA Editions).
He is a member of the expert committee convened by the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) in two key areas: the use of CBCT in Endodontics, and clinical procedures involving intentional replantation, autotransplantation, and surgical extrusion. Dr. Abella serves as a reviewer for journals including the International Endodontic Journal, Clinical Oral Investigations, Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry, Quintessence International, and the Australian Endodontic Journal.
He is an active member of the Spanish Association of Endodontics (AEDE), the Spanish Society of Prosthodontics and Esthetic Dentistry (SEPES), and currently serves as President of the Spanish Society of Conservative and Aesthetic Dentistry (SEOC).
