Dental implants have been one of the most common modalities of treatment for replacement of missing teeth. This short lecture aimed at dental hygienist/therapist will look at various kind of implants and how they are similar or different to natural tooth and tries to differentiate between peri implant health and disease. We aim to discuss scientific literature on risk factors, prevalence, extent and severity of peri‐implant diseases including peri‐implant mucositis and peri‐implantitis. Evidence and procedure for various treatment protocols for non-surgical and surgical treatment outcomes for peri implant mucotitis and peri implantatis as well as maintenance protocol for healthy implants will be critiqued.
