Abstract
Early Childhood Caries (ECC) remains one of the most prevalent chronic diseases of childhood, strongly influenced by today’s sugar-rich diets and evolving lifestyle habits. The effects of ECC extend beyond dental health—impacting speech, self-esteem, nutrition, and the development of permanent teeth. Equally important is how pediatric dentists manage young, anxious, or sensory-sensitive children who need treatment but struggle to cooperate, making sedation an essential tool in modern pediatric dentistry.
This webinar explores two essential dimensions of pediatric care: prevention and sedation. It highlights how sugar exposure and dietary patterns shape caries risk, the importance of enamel protection, and strategies for guiding parents toward preventive behaviors. It also addresses how sedation—when used safely and thoughtfully—can transform the dental experience, reduce trauma, and build positive long-term attitudes toward oral health. By combining preventive strategies with behavioral and pharmacologic management, healthcare professionals can help children grow up cavity-free and fearless in the dental chair.
