Abstract

After reviewing the mechanical properties of fiber posts and the requirements of the bonding procedures in the previous lectures, this lecture will focus on the clinical parameters that mandate a possible modification of the placement and adhesive clinical protocols. In fact the biomechanics of the restorative option vary greatly according to several clinical factors ranging from the position of the tooth on the arcade, the occlusal load, the presence of absence of neighboring teeth and other factors.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the differences between a vital and a non vital tooth
  • List the drawback of metallic posts
  • Define the components of fiber posts
  • Explain the behavior of fiber posts in root canal treated teeth
  • Revise prior knowledge of intracanal adhesive restorations
  • Choose the proper post geometry to fit the clinical situation
  • Adapt the overall restorative option to the clinical situation
