Abstract
The rehabilitation of posterior region using bonded restorations has proved to be a great step forward in conservative dentistry. From single restoration to full mouth rehabilitation, biomimetic dentistry represents a new challenge for materials as well as operator skills. The knowledge of bio-mechanic considerations such as limits of restorative materials and remnant dental structures, as well as the careful application of bonding techniques, are critical for good prognosis of this kind of treatments. Furthermore, the indication shift between direct and indirect restoration often seems to be a difficult dilema. Achieving stable, high quality, long-lasting direct and indirect restorations is technique sensitive and requires a proper understanding of many factors including material properties, isolation, preparation, bonding and layering among others. Furthermore, the new generation of materials, including fibre-reinforced dentin replacement, has opened a new window to enable direct restorations to have a performance and prognosis similar to indirect restorations and for even stronger indirect restorations when used as base material for build-up. The solution of all these challenges is possible using a proper systematic and simplified work based on research reference together with a rational clinical evaluation.
