Two decades of Piezosurgery: Lessons from the past and new clinical perspectives

Abstract

Piezoelectric bone surgery is currently considered a state of the art technique in oral surgery.  Because of their accurate micrometric and selective action, piezoelectric inserts perform precise bone cutting and prevent soft tissue injuries while preserving anatomic structure integrity. Piezosurgery produces minimal trauma during surgery thus promoting favorable bone healing response.

Over the past 25 years, piezosurgery has undergone significant advancements, particularly in areas such as sinus surgery, ridge splitting, bone grafting, and ultrasonic implant site preparation. These developments have continually enhanced the scope and efficacy of the technique making piezosurgery the technique of choice in bone surgery and implantology.

This lecture will draw upon two decades of clinical experience with piezosurgery, highlighting recent innovations and the potential for future applications. We will present novel inserts and surgical techniques that promise to further refine the practice. A series of clinical cases, supported by scientific and clinical research, will illustrate the tangible clinical and biological benefits of piezoelectric bone surgery.
