11th Dental Facial Cosmetic International Conference

"MI" Modern Clinical Management of Deep Carious Lesions

In his presentation, Prof Banerjee, a world-renowned cariologist and operative dentist, researcher and lecturer from the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, King's College London, will outline and discuss with clinical and scientific evidence, the contemporary minimally invasive approach to selective carious dentine removal. With an improved understanding and appreciation of the pathophysiology of the caries process, it is now evident that the conventional complete carious tissue removal protocol that has been taught and practised by dentists for many years, are in need of updating and moderating. Selective tissue excavation should now be the norm, in order to preserve pulp sensibility and tooth structure. Sealing this residual caries-affected tissue is possible with modern bio-interactive materials. This will result in more predictable and longer lasting restorations to be managed by the motivated patient. He will also highlight the post-graduate education opportunities for developing MI Dentistry, including the distance-learning masters programme he runs at KCL, London.
