Abstract
Our patients might have individual treatment needs. However, what they have in common is the task of daily plaque control. Almost everybody is interested in a comfortable way of removing supragingival plaque in a safe way not damaging the sensitive soft tissues. Evidence-based meta-analyses clearly demonstrate the superiority of power toothbrush technologies with respect to outcome and safety. However, several clinical factors can influence the outcome of plaque control as well as possible side effects. Interestingly with sonic toothbrush technology, the swinging brush head bristles are able to remove biofilm without contact: brushing without brushing.
Not only are our recall patients interested in whitening of teeth. After professional cleaning teeth are best prepared for effective whitening procedures, because external discoloration should be removed prior bleaching. In a shared decision process, patients may choose between in-office or at-home procedures. The in-office combination of low concentrated bleaching gels with a chairside LED lamp offers the fastest, safest and best predictable way of delivering whitened teeth in one appointment.
Optimized plaque control with powered toothbrushes is the most effective way of maintaining both oral health and improved aesthetics.
