Abstract
Although surgical soft tissue management draws more attention of practicing dentists every year it is still widely underestimated. The need of soft tissue optimization as a part of implant treatment is an obligate requirement for any specialist, who wants to ensure long-term success. Establishing proper soft tissue dimensions around dental restoration we enhance the ability of human body to self-regulate. The range of techniques for it is wide, but indications differ from patient to patient. Free gingival graft, apically repositioned flap, roll flap, palacci technique, connective tissue graft, gamborena technique, “let it fill” technique are among the most common, although not the only to be considered. We discuss major indications for different approach and for one- two- or three- step procedures, considering gingival biotype, residual bone amount and bone grafting need. Donor sites affect the outcome, as palate and tuber have different graft properties, xenograft should also be an option. Post operation medical regimen also hugely impacts the outcome and possible complications in early period. We must know the properties of different chemical compounds in order to properly use and combine them, allowing the best result for our patients.
