Abstract

There is a common belief that there’s nothing new to learn about direct restorations. As dentists, we consider the class II procedure to be somehow boring. After all, on average, 69% of our annual patient base will need a direct restoration – around 50% of these will be class II’s.  Understandably, we underestimate the possible setbacks of an incorrect class II restoration, what it means to our patients and ultimately what it means to us.  In reality, class II resin restorations are up to 10 times more likely to be replaced at our expense than class II dental amalgams. This lecture will focus on several aspects of the class II procedure that are vulnerable and will provide a workflow which can be applied on a daily basis in order to avoid the common pitfalls that often lead to the need for replacement.
