Rik Jacobs is born on 29 May 1970. He studied International Marketing Management in The Netherlands. Since 2000 he worked for Vertex Dental B.V. Since 1 January 2008 is member of board of directors/shareholder. In the present job he is responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Sales. He created The Vertex Dental Academy in 2007 and opened offices together with the board in Singapore and China showed incredible grow figures and all these successes leaded to the title of Export Manager in The Netherlands in 2007. Besides, Vertex Dental reached 2nd in the Jan Huyghen van Linschoten Price in 2008.

show more/lessThe burning mouth syndrome leaves a painful, burning sensation of the oral mucosa with no underlying dental or medical cause for these symptoms. BMS occurs mainly in middle age and it is hardly found under the age of 40. In the first two types it is referred to as BMS primary. In type 3BMS which is called secondary etiological factors. These patients exhibit more frequent contact allergy (65%) of which 80% response indicates when the contact with the allergen is avoided. Paste Skin tests are not always reliable.
It is not always visible or to an irritation or an allergic reaction is contact. Thus, the following techniques can be used: if there is a reaction immune system on an allergen in the patient with BMS (fe. rest monomer, metal, accelerator system or denture cleaning products) then the patient is treated with an alternative thermoplastic denture base material. Vertex Dental worked out in cooperation with ACTA University and Fontys University the BMS Project for Development of alternative denture base materials: Rapid Prototyping, fe. stereolithografic (STL), milling (CNC) and laser sintering (SLS); Thermoplastic products and techniques, fe. PA, COC en SAN.
ThermoSens is the innovative, virtually unbreakable, new monomer-free rigid denture base material (Flexural modulus & strength, Charpy impact strength notched, Toughness test, Hysteresis, Polish).
The development aimed ThermoSens to be:
  • Low allergen denture base material with reliable performance and acceptable cost price
  • Used for partial and full dentures
  • Used in combination with current techniques
  • Biocompatible and complying to ISO standards and CE mark

Ike is a graduate from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy and Structural Biology, School of Medicine; before his fascination in the field of Dentistry. In 2003, he graduated with Distinction, a Bachelor Degree in Dental Technology, School of Dentistry, University of Otago. Since 2004, he became a New Zealand Registered Dental Technician, and selected to be a Board Member of the New Zealand Dental Council. He was heavily involved in the production side of removable prosthodontic appliances for a few years before he decided to pursue his passion in the fixed prosthodontics discipline. He worked as a laboratory supervisor in the waxing and ceramics department until 2008; before he relocated to Thailand.
Since then he has been working for Ivoclar Vivadent as a Technical Consultant and Trainer, for the South East Asia region. He has been lecturing and conducting hands-on workshop intensively in the fixed prosthodontic disciplinary in countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. He is also a guest lecturer at various Universities among these countries. Ike is presently working with clinical key opinion leaders emphasizing comprehensive implantology, restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

IPS e.max CAD-on... Where STRENGTH and ESTHETIC combines

show more/lessThe new IPS e.max CAD-on technique marks a new era in bridge fabrication; as it combines the advantages of lithium disilicate (LS2) glass-ceramic with those of zirconium oxide (ZrO2). This technique allows users to fabricate high-strength and highly esthetic restorations from IPS e.max CAD (LS2) and IPS e.max ZirCAD (ZrO2) ceramics.
Due to the CAD/CAM fabrication technique, tooth- or implant-supported posterior bridges (up to 4 units) can be fabricated. The two essential parts required are: a zirconium oxide framework made of IPS e.max ZirCAD and a lithium disilicate veneering structure made of the new IPS e.max CAD HT B40 block. The two elements are designed using Sirona inLab software V3.80 and milled in the Sirona inLab MC-XL unit. The IPS e.max ZirCAD framework is then sintered in the Programat S1 Sintering furnace. The homogeneous all-ceramic bond of the two separately milled parts is achieved during the crystallization of IPS e.max CAD by means of the innovative IPS e.max CAD Crystall./Connect fusion glass-ceramic. The advantageous outcome of this technique is having a high-strength monolithic structure on Zirconium oxide framework that will finally function as a unit due to the homogeneous bonding of the glass ceramic fusion process.
